BLOGDAY 1.1

Tuesday, 14 November 2006 | By Mike | Category: Blab, Musings, Et Al, General

I was blog-hopping earlier today to do a final check of entries for the Lasang Pinoy 15 Food Blogging Event which I am currently hosting. While at Ces’ essenCes, I saw an entry about her blog’s first birthday. Suddenly, I was reminded of my own blog’s first birthday last month.

Lafang is exactly one year and one month old today!

Indeed, as Ces said, “how time flies!” How did Lafang start? It was a question asked of me when I was a guest in a local television program recently here in Manila. In August last year, I went through some kind of depression not even my closest friends in Brunei knew about. Those sleepless nights had me glued in front of my computer surfing the web aimlessly. And while chatting with Iska, I discovered something I thought I could turn my attention and energies to. Thus, the birth of my first themed blog LAFANG at blogger.com.

The blog that was initially intended for myself and close friends soon became more public when Iska hooked me with Karen who became an instant online pal via Yahoo! Messenger, and an invitation from Stef to join the first Lasang Pinoy Food Blogging Event. As the Events progressed, other online friendships with other bloggers in the Philippines and across the world have been established.

In October 2005, two months after Lafang blog started, mikemina.com was born out of an unexpected addiction to blogging. It then became apparent that “MangMike” needed to work [read: BLOG] harder since the name was already public. And work hard I did with the support of Karen and the BLOG-GENIE I stumbled upon on the web. Thank you . . .

Funny though, even as I’m already in Manila for good, Karen, to date, is still a “voice” on the phone and “characters” in a chat window. Marketman already had two EB’s with his readers and yet, Karen and I, as “partners-in-certain-crimes” haven’t had the chance to see eye-to-eye! LOL!

Lafang, as originally intended, helped me through and out of the predicament I was in at that time. Lafang and blogging has taught me a lot of things and has been paving the way for opportunities.

Last month for its actual birthday, and in conjunction with Lasang Pinoy 15’s “recycling” theme, Yaya SisterVi resurrected some leftover tuna and noodles into a yummy Tuna Spaghetti treat.

Recycled Tuna Spaghetti

To my regular non-blogging readers as well as the regular “lurkers,” thank you very much for visiting this site. Ditto, my appreciation also goes to all fellow bloggers who have continuously supported Lafang from day one.

Thank you! Maraming Salamat!
