OF GETTING SICK, FOOD RATIONS
AND A RESIGNATION
Friday, 16 December 2005 | By Mike | Category: Glorious Food, International, Others
I mentioned in a recent post that I rarely get sick. True. And when I do, it happens only towards the end of the year, usually in December during Christmas.
This year, it came slightly earlier than the usual. I have been nursing some head cold and a bit of cough for almost a week now. Kind of a bit slow to go away too, as I do not really take medication like others would on a regular basis.
I am not a big fan of clinics, hospitals, doctors, nurses or medicine for that matter. I’d rather stick to my preferred, age-old therapy of consuming as much water as I can. The only downside is that I have to visit the loo every now and then, even interrupting my sleep a few times at night!
Since getting sick late last week, I have had friends and colleagues dropping by my place with food and other stuff that might help cheer me up. A blogger friend when she heard about this even jokingly said she wouldn’t mind getting sick at all only for the chance of having food brought to her without fail!
Last night while chatting with her online, I received a call from a friend asking me whether I wanted some pizza for dinner. Who am I to decline? Tee hee . . . I requested for a Quattro Staggioni, without hesitation. A few minutes later, another friend called to say he was dropping by with some news . . . not food!
The pizza-bearing friend arrived together with the other news-bearing friend. I gobbled-up the whole pizza in no time while the other friends feasted on the kare-kareng pata and daing na bangus [cooked earlier for me by another colleague!] I was about to have when the offer for a pizza came through.
During the meal, the other friend mentioned that the news he brought was that he’s just resigned and was heading off [penniless] for home to Manila this weekend. It was kind of a sad decision as we’ve for a month been trying to ask him to reconsider and think further, pending confirmation of another job offer in the Middle East.
Magpa-Pasko pa naman and he’s got three small kids and an unemployed wife . . . Sob! Mababawasan tuloy ako ng isa pang taga-luto!

Pizza Quattro Staggioni [Four Seasons] with loads of anchovies and artichokes. Originally with seafood but I requested it to have chicken and pepperoni instead, on a mozzarella cheese-filled crispy crust.
This meal was then followed by a bowl of Pralines & Pecan ice cream eaten with pandesal and a bar of Picnic chocolate, to my blogging friend’s disgust and ire, as we continued chatting online! Mama mia! No wonder relief isn’t forthcoming at all! Tee hee . . .

I believe you’re just feigning sickness in order to have an excuse for eating all the food you want, hahaha! Fiesta yan ah! Seriously, hope you get better. Must be the cold winds of December. I’m dying to know kung may pinadala si ms. cabbage-rose, hehehe.
ei mang mayk, i think you should do that more often….feigning sickness like what kai said….o di ba nakakapahinga ka na with matching dalaw pa from your friends and the free lafang……he he he he…
Hope you get well soon Mike! Have a happy holidays with lots of good food :)
hi mike…wish i have friends like yours, coming over and cooking for me…hmm, give me a piece of that pizza….
HOY! Explain why that blogging friend was disgusted. :P
Uubo-ubo tapos ice cream na may nuts pa! Suuusss!!! :P
Uyy, sarap namang magkasakit pag ganyan. Puro pagkain ang nakakaharap mo :)
Mang Mike, you’re right, hindi dapat nag-iiinom ng gamot, sabi nga basta viral infection dapat lang drink plenty of fluids and rest.
Kakalungkot naman ang nangyari sa friend niyo, talagang hirap ng buhay dito sa atin.
Happy Holidays!
thank you all folks . . . am fine now pero may sipon at ubo pa din . . . :-)
