ei mike,

i hear they're having another viaje this weekend, to vigan this time... are u going, mr AMATEUR photographer? :)

once in a while, i find myself thinking of that viaje ... it was so relaxingly and surprisingly educational (is it so obvious, i just expected to eat), not to mention filling, and FUN. I've since been spreading nonoy's tale about running in the hallways of Eng trying to get to the classroom ahead of his students - makes an interesting visual, doesn't it. still makes me laugh. And ernest's favorite question: if you were an animal... when? or how?

and the gosioco fare was the best! i guess i'm really not for the exotic palaka and stuff :) then again, i liked willie's sisig. and willie himself. i'm always pleasantly surprised when there are people who think beyond themselves, and actually care about their community and the country.

now im rambling... that's what u get when it's almost 4am and there's an unfinished report looking u in the eye, telling u it has to be presented at 10am. arrrgggghhhhhhh

sorry mike, for using ur blog for the ramble. :)

ciao,

Aside from the food, I envy you for finally meeting the Pilgrim!

I've actually cooked sisig with brain, left-over from lechong ulo ng baboy. Didn't know it's actually another dish called dinakdakan.

JMom, the Pilgrim is indeed a wonderful person and I knew it already even before I met her. She is intelligent, sharp, witty and loves to share her knowledge about almost everything!

I also remember the kilawen that my father used to do and serve to his drinking buddies. I have seen a real dinakdakan only once - the one with brains and not mayo.

You just made me want some of those gorgorias, and I'm not even normally into sweet stuff :) It's great to see the Pilgrim finally :) she looks as wonderful as her online personality. You are so lucky to have met her.

My dad and his barkada used to make a version of the sisig, but they just called it kilawen. They have a version called dinakdakan (?) where the pigs ears, jowls sisig is also mixed with brain. Are you familiar with that version? I always thought it was just a concoction thought of by the lasingeros. haha!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your 'viahe', with envy :D

Hi Paul!

My pleasure! I thought I'd never get to finish the series . . . hehehe! Thanks for patiently waiting for the last two installments.

The gorgorias are hard like the palipit that we know . . . it's less sweeter too and the zesty flavour of the dayap makes you plop one piece after the other into your mouth . . . kinda addictive though . . . :-)

Hi Mike...The gorgorias look really good! Are they as hard as palipit, too?

Thanks for that interesting angle about the sisig...didn't know that...

It is also interesting to know that an old house like the Gosioco house is being preserved, lived in and shared with everyone as a backdrop to enjoy heirloom cuisine...

Great final post! It was worth all the wait! :-)
